Can
I connect any standard telephone onto the ArgentPhone modules?
The Network
Alchemy products are intended to work with standard analogue telephones
that are widely available in the High Street. The products support
DTMF dialing, tone dialing (not pulse dialing) and time break recall
(not earth recall), which is standard, features on standard modern
telephones.
Caller
Display information is presented to the telephones as defined in
BT's SIN 227 which BT use for their residential caller display service.
The Alchemy products use both the number and name display lines
(names are generated from a manager defined list), but be aware
some caller display telephones do not have a name display line.
The products have a ringing output of REN1, be aware that telephones
REN's are quoted just as pessimistically so do not be surprised
if several REN1 telephones work on each port.
The ArgentPhone
analogue telephone outputs are RJ45 sockets (one extension per socket)
on the front of the unit, which are intended to connect to a structured,
wiring system. Cable converters (slaves) can then be used to convert
from the RJ45 to standard BT style telephone sockets. The ArgentPhone
acts as a master socket.
The CyberGear
TA has 3 standard BT style telephone sockets on its base for the
analogue telephones. If you wish to extend these then use slave
sockets, the TA acts as a master. The CyberGear Gold supports 6
analogue telephones. The first 3 telephones can be plugged directly
into the unit as per the TA. If more than 3 telephones are required
then special splitter cables must be connected to the BT style telephone
sockets on the base of the unit
The Alchemy
products have been tested with telephones from many suppliers without
problem, however: -
- The
"Siemens Euroset 805 telephone" is incompatible with the ArgentPhone
as there is insufficient current to drive it.
- The
"BT Extension Booster" (REN booster) does not operate due to insufficient
ringing voltage from the ArgentPhone module.
- The
"Alcatel Altiset Comfort DECT telephone" requires the ArgentOffice
/ CyberGear to be set to ring type 5 to ring the telephone and
display caller ID. This is set during the programming of the system.
- The
"Lucent Technologies Galilee PS902 telephone" is incompatible
with the Alchemy products as there is insufficient ringing voltage
to it.
