What is Carrier
Pre-Selection?
Carrier Pre-Selection
(CPS) is very similar to Least Cost Routing (LCR) in that it has
all the benefits of enabling you to reduce your phone call charges,
but without the drawbacks of an engineer visiting to reprogram your
switchboard or fitting dialler boxes to each phone line*.
Following on from a ruling by OFTEL (Office of Telecommunications,
the official industry regulator), Business Serve can now arrange
for your local telephone exchange to be programmed in association
with BT and thus guaranteeing no call leakage.
*Companies with
large switchboards that have been programmed by another service
provider may require an engineer.
Can I have
this service?
The service
is only available to customers who currently rent their telephone
lines from BT. Both ISDN and analogue lines can benefit from the
service, although Feature lines are currently incompatible. (We
will let you know when the service becomes available)
Do I have
to cancel any services from BT?
BT offer various
services, the most common service that our customers are using are
Select (Star) Services. These are additional services that can be
put onto your line and, as such, are rented from BT as part of your
line agreement. Services such as 1471, 1571 and call waiting are
all compatible with CPS. Unfortunately, Call Diversion is currently
incompatible and in order to benefit from Carrier Pre-Selection
you will need to remove this service from your line rental agreement
with BT before you can save money and eliminate leakage!!
How do I
sign up?
It's completely
straightforward. All we need from you are your BT telephone numbers,
their corresponding BT line rental agreement numbers (found on your
BT Bill) and your written consent. The appropriate forms can be
obtained by calling Westlake Communications on 0800 298 8011.
What happens
once you've received my consent?
Your telephone
numbers are provisioned on the network and checked for Call Diversion
(currently incompatible with CPS). Once we have received confirmation
of this check we then contact BT with your telephone and bill reference
number and wait for them to give us a date that you will be routed.
This date is normally 10-14 days after submission. BT usually sends
a letter to you confirming this date and informing that they will
only be providing your line rental and any other agreed services.
Why does
it take so long to set up?
Under OFTEL's
regulations there is a 10 day cooling off period that protects you,
if you wish to cancel this service. Under this, you will not be
charged for cancellation and will not have made any calls through
our service.
When do I
start being charged for my calls?
As soon as you
have switched from BT to your new calling plan and start making
calls.
